So far in our series on verandahs and patios, we have looked at some of the important factors you need to consider in the design and shape of the structure you are going to add to your home. We have also investigated the lifestyle and energy saving benefits that adding a verandah or patio can provide, and we have explored some of the wonderful engineering technology that is available for your comfort and enjoyment.

In this article, we are going to discuss one of the most crucial choices you need to make before construction finally gets under way – selecting the roof profile.

There are some important choices to make at this stage, because every profile offers some great benefits, but you need the profile that’s right for your home based on how you intend to use your outdoor living and entertainment space. So let’s get started.

Cooldek

If you are looking for cool and quiet, then Cooldek is a wonderful choice, offering up to an R 2.8 insulation rating. The unique design consists of a polystyrene core that is permanently bonded to a smootheasy to clean, coloured steel underside and a profiled, steel topside, effectively creating an all-in-one insulated roof and ceiling. Cooldek is incredibly strong, making it possible to span up to 7 metres. This means fewer beams and framework, creating an uncluttered, ceiling-like appearance. You also have the benefit of a quieter space, with Cooldek substantially reducing the sound of rain and hail, and ambient noise. The hidden benefit of Cooldek is reduced energy bills, as your home is kept substantially cooler, creating less demand on air-conditioning.

Traditional Australian CGI

If you are looking for that classic ‘Aussie’ look, then nothing beats Traditional Australian CGI.

In its contemporary form, Australian CGI is available in double sided high gloss colours, creating a pleasant ambience for outdoor living and entertainment.

Polycarbonate CGI – Twin Wall Sheeting

Want a bit of light on the subject? Polycarbonate CGI is a strong alternative to a metal roof, with the added benefit of providing protection from the weather without blocking natural light. For a completely transparent roof, Clear Polycarbonate is the perfect choice, giving you almost 100% light transfer, and an uninhibited view of the sky and trees around you. For a muted, but effective natural light source, Opaque Polycarbonate is a great option that also protects you from the full effect of the sun’s rays.  Polycarbonate CGI can be used to cover an entire roof, or if you just want to create a skylight effect, then we can combine Colorbond sheeting with the Polycarbonate.

Sunroof

The Outback Sunroof really is a wonderful piece of engineering. Equipped with electronically controlled louvres, the sunroof can be opened or closed, exactly how you want it. Let in the breeze and sunlight when the weather is fine, or close to protect you from the sun and rain, and all at the touch of a button on your remote control. Just in case you’re not home, Sunroof has a built-in rain sensor that automatically closes the roof, keeping your washing dry, and protecting that party set-up from being ruined.

Clearspan

Clearspan sheets are engineered to self-support over a large span so that an uncluttered structure can be used without compromising on strength and rigidity. This gives you a very clean, sleek appearance that has minimal visual impact on your home, or the outdoor space.

Shade Blade

Shade Blade is a simple but effective profile that gives you the best of both worlds – cool shaded relief from the harsh summer sun, while allowing free air movement throughout the structure. The blades are designed to be permanently set in position at 45° or 90°, blocking out summer sun while allowing warm winter sun to filter through. Each blade also has a small gutter, keeping you dry and drip free from light rain and drizzle.

Shade Cloth

For garden areas, shade cloth is a wonderfully simple, yet ideal choice for protecting your plants from harsh sunlight; at the same time providing essential filtered sunlight and refreshing natural rain.

Choose a combination of profiles

Most families have a multitude of uses for their outdoor living space, which often means a common profile across the entire covered area just isn’t practical. The modular design of our verandahs and patios makes it possible to incorporate multiple profiles that give you just the right roof covering, right where you need it.

Experience each profile first-hand

The best way to choose your profile is to drop into our Display Centre at 500 North East Road, Windsor Gardens, and experience the features of each profile for yourself. You will also be able to chat with one of our Roof Technicians who can offer some great advice, and help you create the perfect outdoor space for your home.
